BIRD SHIFT: THE ANTHROPOGENIC ORNITHOLOGY OF NORTH AMERICA

This series of projects investigate the changing demographic of bird populations in North America since European colonization and how those changes have transformed both the experience of birds we encounter on a day to day basis and the very definition of the term "North American Birds." We focus on both birds that have gone extinct due primarily to human activity and birds that have been successfully introduced by humans. The history of these introduced birds is usually not common knowledge and many are now thought of as common North Amercian birds. We also investigate the way birds alter their behavior to better succeed in the human built environment.
