Rock Collecting Project

In Rock Collecting Project the collection process is presented as the central focus instead of simply a means to an end. Following a quasi-scientific model, I outlined a rigid collection process that I strictly followed for each rock type included in the project. During the collection, the initial location of each rock was marked by placing a copper flag in the ground. The location markers were used to create maps showing my collecting path at each site. The finished maps are intended to describe only my action, not any specific place.

The installation consists of: A display table (rocks, wood, monofilament), nine hand made booklets (watercolor, ink, digital prints, wax, copper covers), the collecting box (wood, copper, canvas strap, various tools), 9 copper and bamboo flags, 27 custom framed drawings, and 9 maps.
